My hope with this blog post is that if anyone is considering a new home purchase from Tony Tyner with Tyner Homes, that they would read this and decide to go with a different choice. Tony Tyner and Tyner Homes builds homes in the Owasso, Collinsville, Skiatook and Oologah areas. Home prices range from around $175,000 to $300,000 mostly, but I think he has attempted pricier homes in the past.
As with any large purchase, do your research. When we purchased from Tyner Homes, we did google the name and looked for anything negative and we didn't find any. If we had seen then what we are seeing now, we would never have purchased from him. There are now multiple negative complaints against him that are public on the BBB website. They post the details of the complaints for a few months, but then after that, they take the detail off but they still show the number of complaints, so I'll post screenshots of them so that they are visible for longer periods of time. Yesterday, his Facebook page had multiple complaints posted there as well but he took them down today. He took mine down, but I have a screenshot of that!
But our complaint against him is that he has not completed the punch list items that we were assured would be completed in a timely manner, and we were told that we had 1 year from the date of closing to inform him of any additional items that we have noted. We did inform him and his agents multiple times of a very detailed list of items that needed to be completed, to which they confirmed receipt and conversed with us about some of the issues, including but not limited to repainting areas that were never painted properly in the first place, ATTACHING THE HANDRAIL for the staircase TO THE WALL (safety hazard), missing parts to an upstairs bedroom window (safety hazard), lights that malfunction (electrical issue) and severe drainage issues that we ended up having to correct ourselves to prevent our house from flooding. Tony Tyner and his employee and agents were contacted multiple times to make arrangements to come fix these problems. We did receive responses of "we will be out next week" or on a specific day. However, when that day came, we took off work to be here and no one would show up. This happened on at least 3 occasions. When we texted or called to find out when they will be there, we got no response. Our BBB complaint received similar responses. If you are unaware of how a complaint to the BBB works, here is the lowdown. We submit a complaint and they send it to him and he has a certain amount of time to submit a response, then we have a certain amount of time to respond, then it's his turn again. So his initial response to them was that the work was to be completed the following week. Funny, because he had not made that arrangement with us, and shouldn't we know if someone was supposed to be at our house completing work? So that was basically our response back, and again his response was that it should be done "next week." I saw Tony Tyner at a local restaurant and he said that Brett "will get with you next week." Starting to see a trend?
So my advise is to NOT do business with Tyner Homes, or Tony Tyner if he should change the name of his business at some point. He is not reputable and will lie and tell you that he's going to do something just to get you to shut up in hopes that you will just drop it. And if you have already purchased a home from Tyner Homes or Tony Tyner and have similar experiences, I would recommend that you at the very least send in a complaint to the BBB. It's very easy and you can do it all online, and then the rest is handled through email. And then you can print that out and send a copy to the Tulsa Home Builders Association so that they have a record of it as well.
